Impetus Business Development Chief Shows Off Company’s Big Data Lineup

SiliconAngle Studio B host Winston Edmondson caught up with Yue Cathy Chung, the senior director of business development for Impetus Technologies, to discuss her company and take a look at their newest Big Data solution.

Chung starts the interview by providing a brief rundown of Impetus. The firm is a software engineering and IT services provider that started out in India 22 years ago and entered the U.S. market in 1997. It undertook its first Big Data project 10 years later.

Chung highlights that the analytics space is radically different than the traditional services market in that customers typically don’t have clearly defined goals. Impetus helps organizations select and implement the best solutions for their specific use cases. The executive says that enterprises users who are interesting in jumping on the Big Data bandwagon are often unfamiliar with the ecosystem. For this reason, Impetus offers one- and five-day seminars that focus on the vendors and solution in the marketplace.

According to Chang, customers want to integrate analytics into their business for two main reasons: to boost revenue, or lower costs. Neustar, a Lockheed Martin spin-off that specializes in real-time data intelligence, is one client that sought to achieve the latter. Chung boasts that Impetus helped Neustar lower infrastructure overhead, freeing up resources for other projects in the process.

In the second part of the interview, Impetus principal architect Vivek Ganesan showcases the company’s newly announced real-time analytics engine. He demonstrates two applications written atop the platform: one that uses tweets to gauge public opinion, and another that tracks stock signals.
