Samsung Unveils New Zero Client Stand at #VMworld

Samsung is showcasing its newest desktop virtualization solutions at this week’s VMworld 2013 conference in Fransisco. The centerpiece of the company’s exhibit is the NB-NH Cloud Stand, a recently launched zero client that packs a VDI-optimized Tera2 system on a chip (SOC) from Teradici.

The NB-NH can hold any VESA-compatible monitor with a display size of up to 27 inches and a weight of 14.3 lbs. It features integrated stereo speakers and four USB 2.0 ports that enable users to extend the platform with printers, scanners, web cams and a wide range of other devices. The client also includes local caching, improved data compression and AES 256-bit encryption.

Samsung says that the cloud stand can deliver up to five times the VDI pixel performance of previous generation machines while consuming less power and taking up a fraction of the bandwidth.

The NB-NH is displayed alongside the company’s new NC Series zero client displays. The VMware View-certified monitors take advantage of a LED-backlit LCD screen to deliver “business-class performance and state-of-the-art picture quality in a highly efficient package.”

“Samsung is dedicated to supporting enterprise customers with products that offer businesses across vertical markets such as education, federal government, corporate, banking/financial and healthcare with secure and efficient ways to embrace cloud computing,” said Tod Pike, the senior vice president of Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Samsung continues to drive technology leadership in virtualization and cloud display by providing solutions like the NB-NH Cloud Stand that enable businesses to more easily deploy, maintain and manage user environments that are less vulnerable to security risks, while also freeing up valuable desktop real estate.”

Samsung’s enterprise device strategy spans from VDI to flash. Last month the company unveiled the eMMC PRO, a NAND-based embedded memory chip that supports the latest eMMC 5.0 standard.
