What to Expect At Tomorrow’s Apple Event

Just one more day to go before the world lays its eyes on Apple’s new iPhone, or even iPhones if we are to believe reports that there’ll be a high-end version in champagne gold, graphite, black and white colors, plus a low-end version with colorful plastic casings.  Apple will be hosting the event tomorrow at its Cupertino headquarters at 10AM P.T.

So what do we know about what Apple will be revealing tomorrow?

Two iPhones

This will be the first time the Cupertino giant will be unveiling two iPhones at once.  Dubbed the iPhone 5S and 5C, the devices may look different since the 5S will have metallic finish, while the 5C will be encased in plastic. Some are saying that the two devices will probably have almost the same features, with only some minor differences such as a different screen resolution, processor, and camera pixels.

Interestingly, the 5S is said to be aimed at the Chinese market, thus the “C” in the name – As in, C for China.  However, others suggest that the “C” could actually mean the device is “cheap” or “colorful”, and will be directed at emerging markets.  If you dissect Apple’s event invites with the tag line “This should brighten everyone’s day,” with a background of colorful circles, it’s likely that the company will be unveiling colorful iPhones tomorrow.

As for the new features, the next iPhone is said to have a larger-capacity battery, a new dual-LED rear-camera flash, a 12MP camera, slow motion camera feature, a fingerprint scanner, offline dictation, a Retina+ Sharp IGZO display with 1080p Full HD resolution, and may also be equipped with  LTE-A technology from SK Telecom.

iOS 7

We can expect that by tomorrow, iOS 7 will finally be available for download for the following devices: iPhone 4, 4S, 5, iPod Touch 5th Gen 16/32/64GB, iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, and the iPad mini.  The new iOS will feature a new look – albeit one that’s been described as an Android copycat with its Notifications and Control Center.  The icons for the native apps have also been refreshed, and now appear more colorful and feature lots of circles.

The camera app has been updated a new UI, filter and editing options, the photo app now has collections which lets you see photos in a timeline, multitasking has been improved, and the weather app is now more interactive in a way that it depicts the weather on the screen. Other apps that saw major reconstruction work are the Calendar, Siri, NewsStand, GameCenter, and PassBook. New features will also be introduced, such as iTunes Radio, Reminders, Compass, Maps, Messages, and AirDrop.  Reports have also stated that the new platform will support offline dictation and will track and display your every move.

iWatch and Apple TV

According to reports, Apple will also be launching a fully revamped Apple TV. While no actual Apple television is expected to be unveiled, early reports state that Apple will be offering ad-free TV enjoyment.  Aside from that, we can expect a different way to control your Apple TV, if there’s any truth to rumors regarding Apple purchasing PrimeSense, the company that gave birth to the technology used in Kinect.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear last week, people automatically assumed that come Tuesday, Apple will also be revealing its own smartwatch.  We might see an iWatch revealed tomorrow, but that’s more likely to happen next year, or perhaps, maybe even never.  As you may have noticed, Apple is not always big on following trends as it usually prefers to set them.  Back when Android OEM’s were unveiling phablets, Apple stuck rigidly to its smaller smartphones.  And while almost every smartphone released has NFC, iPhones and iPads do not.  So even if everyone else releases a smartwatch this year, don’t bank on Apple doing the same.
