Crowdfund These Smart Gadgets : Ear/Ring Bluetooth, Audio Wrist + Allergen Detectors

This week’s SmartDevice roundup features a ring that transforms into a communication piece, a bracelet that lets you keep track of conversations, and device that tells you information about the food you are about to consume.

O.R.B.

Bluetooth headset users encounter the same problem: pain in the ear because they are constantly wearing the device, even if they aren’t talking to anyone.  Bluetooth headsets are too bulky to be put inside your pockets, and it could easily get damaged when you sit, and too small to be placed inside your bag, and easily gets lost in the abyss.  Don’t you wish there was a way to wear your Bluetooth piece without hurting your ear?

The O.R.B. is a ring that transforms into a an elegant headset with a simple twist.  If you’re not expecting a call, just twist it up to turn it into a fashionable ring.  Just don’t forget to take it off when you wash your hands. Unlike most headsets that invade your ear, the O.R.B. rests outside your ear, thus reducing pain when used for long periods.

O.R.B. is not yet available, as it is still a project under development.  It’s planned to soon hit stores in various sizes and designs suited for men and women.

Kapture

There are moments in our lives when we know we can win an argument if we could just prove that the other person said something that he or she is denying.  There’s no way to turn back time, so that’s out of the question.  And even if you want to record everything using your smartphone, you probably don’t want to risk draining your battery or using up all your device storage.

Kapture is a successfully funded Kickstarter project that allows you to record audio and share recordings with just a tap.  It recently surpassed its funding goal of $150,000 and pre-orders of the device will start on November 1, 2013, with plans to start shipping next year.

Kapture captures audio in a 60-second buffer loop and will continue to overwrite recordings until you tap the device.  By tapping the device, the recorded audio will then be saved in your smartphone via the companion app, which you can then share to your friends, or just save for future reference.  Once the clip is in your smartphone, you can edit the audio clip, shorten it, tag it, filter, and share it.  Remember, if you don’t tap it, the recording will not be saved.

The startup is targeting a range of potential users with Kapture, from music professionals to writers, to the visually impaired and those suffering from memory-debilitating diseases.

Kapture is designed like a vintage microphone with grills and you can either wear it a bracelet or clip it on your shirt, bag or belt.  There are many colors to choose from and you can mix and match the grills, bracelet, and Klip.

TellSpec

It’s hard to keep track of the ingredients in your meals, especially when you’re not the one who prepared them.  This is especially daunting for those with food allergies.  Good thing there’s an Indiegogo project that aims to make food tracking easier for us all.

TellSpec is a handheld food scanner that pairs up with an app on your smartphone.  It combines a spectrometer and a unique algorithm to tell you the allergens, chemicals, nutrients, calories, and ingredients in your food.  Just direct TellSpec towards your food, hold the button until it beeps, and it will relay  information about your food to your smartphone.  TellSpec is able to scan through plastic and glass, so you can use it even in grocery stores to check if it is safe before purchasing.

If you want this product to go into production, head to its Indiegogo page and pledge.  It still has 31 days to reach its funding goal of $100,000.
