Here’s What to Expect @ #BigDataNYC : Presented by #theCUBE

Get ready for Big Data NYC, our three-day commemoration of all things Big Data.  Taking place during Big Data Week, theCUBE will be streaming live from The Big Apple, featuring top tech athletes to discuss the current and future markets powering Big Data.

If music fans get to celebrate Rocktober for the month, then Big Data fans get Datatober… or something of the sort.  It may not be as catchy, but there’s no shortage of excitement for the ream of events taking place in October.  The month seems the perfect time to reflect on the potential and accomplishments of Big Data, concluding with Big Data Week in The Big Apple.

#BigDataNYC kicks off a week from today at the Warwick Hotel on October 28-30, 2013.  The event will be hosted by SiliconANGLE and Wikibon, sponsored by Hortonworks and WANdisco.

VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger has appeared on theCUBE a number of times and last year, sitting down with theCUBE hosts to discuss his plans for the virtualization company.  During his segment Gelsinger mentions that he’ll be focusing on virtualizing the data center and reaching out to the broadening community he refers to as “the networking guys, the security guys, the storage guys, the management guys, [and] the new application vendors,” and that it is a “great opportunity as well as a great responsibility to those community players and how we integrate collectively to bring about this next layer of fundamental innovation, agility and speed for the software data center of the future.”

Colin Mahony, HP Vertica Vice President and General Manager, states during his interview that “the amount and volume of information that are out there are growing at faster and faster pace every day and we’re realizing how to make use of it.” Big Data represents a tectonic shift in the IT world, as “there’s a perfect storm of what’s happening right now – cloud, mobility, security, Big Data.”
