Instagram for Windows Phone + Other New Apps Unveiled @ Nokia World

At Nokia World in Abu Dhabi, the Finnish smartphone maker unveiled a number of new devices that should have Nokia fans salivating.  The Nokia 2520 Windows RT tablet looks great and is an affordable solution for those who want the goodness of a Windows RT tablet without having to pay more.

The company is also offering two phablets, the Lumia 1520 which is aimed at the high-end market, and Lumia 1320, which is aimed at the low to mid range market.  Aside from that, Nokia has also updated its Asha line with the Asha 500, 502 and 503.  The new Asha devices sport colorful polycarbonate casings that are further protected with clear polycarbonate.  So even if you use it for years, the clear casing will protect the vibrant colors from fading, or being easily damaged.

But aside from the new devices, Nokia said it will be updating its application lineup.  At the event, Nokia debuted a wide range of third party applications for its Lumia and Asha lines that means Nokia users will no longer have to envy fandroids and fanbois.

DreamWorks Animation, Flipboard, Electronic Arts, Vine and WhatsApp have all built new apps for the newly launched devices.

DreamWorks’ Dragons Adventure app offers an exclusive gaming experience for the Lumia 2520, while Papyru and InNote are directed for Nokia’s phablet users to help them easily take notes.

WhatsApp will already be available for the Asha 501 when it hits stores, and will soon be available for other Asha devices.  And if you’ve been longing to use Instagram on your Nokia device, that will soon happen as Instagram for Windows Phone has finally been announced.

Nokia also introduced new apps that would take advantage of the new features found in its new device.  Apps such as Nokia Storyteller, Nokia Video Director and Nokia Beamer, take advantage of Nokia’s latest imaging innovation and deep integration with HERE Maps to allow customers to capture, share and re-live memories like never before.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding high-quality, life-enhancing applications,” said Bryan Biniak, Vice President and General Manager, Developer Experience at Nokia. “We’ve collaborated closely with Microsoft and top developers from around the world to deliver unique app experiences, extending the boundaries of innovation for our ecosystem. With the new Lumia and Asha devices, Nokia empowers developers to leverage our latest tools and investments to deliver ground-breaking app experiences that delight consumers and drive increased revenue opportunities.”

In order to deliver more groundbreaking apps for its devices, Nokia now offers over $5 million in rewards through its global DVLUP rewards program for developers interested in creating apps for its Lumia and Asha phones.  Interested developers can now sign up to the DVLUP program, which is available in over 20 countries, and start collecting points by taking challenges that range from learning more through webinars to actual application development.  Earned points can be converted into awards such as merchandizing, devices and promotional support.

For Windows Phone 8 Update 3 developers, Nokia is providing a new set of design, development and troubleshooting tools to be more productive in building apps for the platform.  More information available here.
