6 Pinterest Apps + Alternatives for iPhones and More

Pinterest is going global, with a heavy concentration on the international mobile scene.  Having just raised $225 million in a Series E funding round, the massive cash infusion will be used for its global expansion and investment in infrastructure to improve the service.

As Pinterest aims for global domination, having revealed plans earlier this year to expand in Europe and Asia, mobile is an important focus for the social network.  More and more people now consume web content from their mobile devices, and mobile has been a late focus for Pinterest.  While the photo-centric sharing platform does have apps on all the major mobile platforms, Pinterest will have to continue to nurture its mobile ecosystem in order to succeed its global expansion.

With a nod to Pinterest’s ecosystem and market position, we’ve created a collection of Pinterest-enhancing apps as well as Pinterest alternatives, all dedicated to mobile devices.

3 Apps to enhance the Pinterest experience

.

PinHog for Pinterest

This app allows you to browse Pinterest offline, as well as schedule pins to be published.  This helps reduce data charges as you can schedule pinning when you’re on WiFi.  You can use Pinterest images as live wallpaper or static wallpaper, search similar images using Google Goggles, pin web pages by scanning bar or QR codes, and many more mobile features that help you enhance your Pinterest experience.

.

Scrapbook for Pinterest

This is the Pinterest app for Windows Phone users.  It allows you to browse and post directly to Pinterest.  It also lets you browse pins even without a Pinterest account, while allowing those with Pinterest accounts to share, pin, comment and repin the things they find interesting or the things they love.

.

Wallo

This app allows you to discover and share interesting things based on your device’s wallpaper.  The live wallpaper automatically refreshes, but you can change it anytime you want just by double tapping the screen.  If you like the image shown, you can directly pin in on Pinterest.

3 Pinterest Alternatives

.

Fancy

Pinterest is great for curating things you are interested in, many of which are available for sale online. The trouble is, clicking through to find the retailer for purchasing that product can be a task on its own. If you want something to help you find luxury products, destinations, gadgets and just about everything else, Fancy may help you in that quest.  There are celebrities who endorse Fancy boxes you can purchase.  It’s like the posh version of Pinterest.

.

Behance

This service is like Pinterest for designers and creative minds alike.  You can share your creative designs and receive feedback from the community on how you can improve your designs, or just chat with likeminded people.  Behance has an iPad/iPhone app that goes by the same name, while for Android, it’s known as Sharpee.

.

We Heart It

Directed at teens and college students, We Heart It is a photo-sharing service that is dedicated to all things pop culture, from fashion to TV shows, Hollywood actors and scrumptious food.  It’s just like Pinterest, but more teen-oriented.
