Big Data is the Belle of the ball this week, with #BigDataNYC wrapping up, where theCUBE covered the whole of Big Data Week in New York, including Strata’s conference and Hadoopworld. Another top tech story was Apple’s OS X Mavericks hitting the masses. Security and Bitcoin are not to be left in the dust. Firefox gave us a tool this week to track who is tracking you, and Alert Logic further entrenched itself as a security leader in the cloud. And Bitcoin…Bitcoin, Bitcoin, Bitcoin. Well, Bitcoin got its first ATM machine this week.

Firefox Lightbeem, Track who is tracking youMozilla has been feasting on the cookies, and now it wants to share them. The non-profit organization behind the popular Firefox web browser has announced the release of a new add-on called Lightbeam, that lets users track the cookies that track them across the web. Lightbeam, introduced on the Mozilla Blog by its privacy expert Alex Fowler, aims to show users exactly who is behind each cookie placed on your machine, and it’s often quite eye-opening.

Mentor moments : inspiring women in tech

It seems 2013 was a prime year for furthering the story of women in the tech sector. Every era is tagged with its own feminist movement, and the present day is ripe with initiatives to spur girls’ interest in math and science. While it seems media’s showered us with “women in tech” stories almost non-stop these past few months, we at SiliconANGLE think the important takeaway is that women are sharing their stories.

World’s first Bitcoin ATM in Canada, FBI gets DPR’s BTC booty + London-based Coinfloor launches

Growth for Bitcoin continues. The world’s first Bitcoin ATM has been set up in a coffee shop in Vancouver, Canada that allows people to easily exchange BTC for CDN, and it saw some $10,000+ in transactions in its first day. Also this week England got its very own Bitcoin exchange with Coinfloor, in spite of the fact that the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority has not ruled on the classification of bitcoins as money. The FBI finally got DPR’s BTC booty too, any guess on how much it was?

Alert Logic blazes a leading cloud security path

Alert Logic is positioned as a security leader in the industry, with a unique focus on cloud. A number of recent announcements have reinforced that leadership position with the publication of the State of Cloud Security Report and the distinction of having their services selected to protect the infrastructure of RigNet, a leading global provider of managed remote communications to the energy industry. Very recently the company announced a new web application firewall (WAF) was now available on Amazon Web Services.
