Clustrix releases flagship database for online download

Database maker Clustrix has finally released its flagship platform as a standalone download, enabling customers to deploy the software in their own data centers. Previously available only on AWS, the platform comes in two versions: a free community edition that’s limited to 12 cores, and a commercial edition that starts at $1200 per core per year.

ClustrixDB is billed as a scale-out NewSQL database for processing both transactional and real time workloads. The platform enables users to run ad hoc SQL queries against fast-moving operational workloads such as competitive information, supply chain relationships and consumer sentiment data.

Clustrix claims that its platform is used by AOL, Symantec and dozens of other companies to handle more than one trillion transactions every month. That makes it the world’s most widely implemented scale-out SQL database in production applications.

Robin Purhoit, the chief executive officer of Clustrix, said that his firm is utilizing cutting edge technologies to provide organizations with actionable insights into consumer trends.

“Every company in the world wants real-time insights into up to date customer data.” Purhoit stated. “We believe distributed SQL databases optimized for cloud economics and a smart combination of FLASH and in-memory operation are the answer. ClustrixDB has been battle-tested in production and we are excited to now provide our software in a subscription licensing model at a fraction of the cost of Oracle.”

Clustrix’s approach to ingesting information has caught the attention of both customers and investors. Two months ago, the company raised $10 million in Series D financing from HighBar Partners to expand its customer base and accelerate the development of its database. The firm had previously nabbed $16.5 million from Sequoia Capital, U.S. Venture Partners, ATA Ventures and angel investor Don Listwin.
