Tattoos as lie detectors : wearable tech gets trendy

This week’s Wearable Tech roundup features a tattoo that doubles as a lie detector, a watch that tells you when you’ve had enough fun under the sun, and more fashionable tech for women.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Google has applied for a patent regarding a patch that can facilitate communication during covert operations, or even be used as a lie detector.

The patent describes a patch or a skin tattoo that can be applied on the neck that can “include a galvanic skin response detector to detect skin resistance of a user it is contemplated that a user may be nervous or engaging in speaking falsehoods may exhibit different galvanic skin response than a more confident, truth telling individual.”

How many times have you missed an important call or text because your iPhone is buried deep inside the vortex of you purse?  How many times have you apologized for placing your phone on the dinner table because you are expecting an important call or text?  Don’t you wish there was a discreet way of knowing when you are getting that important call without having to fish out your phone from the black hole of your purse?

Kickstarter project (pronounced MEM-ee) aims to help women stay on top of important smartphone alerts.  This fashionable smart bracelet has three vibrating options that alerts you if you are getting a call, text or a calendar reminder.  You can set it to vibrate only when your boss is calling, or your spouse.  And if you wish to ignore the notification, just tap on the bracelet and the vibrations will stop.

MEMI connects to your iPhone using Bluetooth Low Energy.  Its battery lasts up to five days depending on your notification setting, and its microUSB port for charging is hidden in the clasp so it doesn’t look like you are wearing a tech gadget.  It also has a small button on the side used for powering MEMI or turning it off, and there’s a small LED indicator to let you know if the device is on or off.
