HP StoreOnce 6500 NEWS

HP unveils StoreOnce 6500 backup and free 1 TB storage | #HPDiscover

HP StoreOnce 6500At HP Discover 2013 in Barcelona today, HP unveiled its latest backup solution, the StoreOnce 6500. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, HP also announced that it would be giving away one terabyte (TB) of free storage to anyone in attendance at the keynote address on December 11. This offer is in addition to the one terabyte of VSA storage the company is already giving away to anyone who purchases an HP ProLiant Gen8 Server.

The StoreOnce 6500 features up to 2240 TB capacity, which is three times the scalability of the B6200. Its 4 TB disks also feature 200 percent greater storage density. It can handle 139 TB/hr, making it 4.5 times faster than its closest competitor. It is a backup solution and disaster recovery system that offers data what HP calls “cost-effective onsite data retention” and “data deduplication for consolidated data protection.”

In November, HP revealed that it would bundle 1 TB of HP StoreVirtual VSA storage with its ProLiant Gen8 servers. A virtual storage appliance (VSA) from HP supports multiple hypervisors, including VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V technologies. It allows customers to create converged infrastructure that is mobile and able to offer high availability across multiple locations.

HP has achieved a significant amount of success in the storage market over the past year, enjoying a 47 percent growth, thanks largely in part to its acquisition and nurturing of its 3PAR assets. It has become a key driver for HP’s growth, particularly when it comes to flash storage. More coverage of HP Discover 2013 is available at SiliconAngle.com and live at SiliconAngle.tv.
