Crazy about Iron Man, then get a 3D printed iron man suit

The US military is not alone building full-body ballistic protection like Iron Man suite for soldiers that theoretically allow the wearer to literally walk through a stream of bullets. The Shenzhen, China based Iron Man Factory claims they can build one for you for a whopping $35,000, although apparently not with Marvel’s blessing.

According to the company’s website, the Iron Man Mark III suit weighs less than 3kg and has a carbon fibre reinforced polymer body that is backed up by 2mm EVA internal cushion linings and metal joints to aid durability. The iron suite is designed to fit anyone as tall as 5’5” to 6’1”. It incorporates sensor controlled motors to activate the “thrusters” on back and even slide open the helmet. The suites are made from carbon-fiber reinforced polymer for the body with 2mm EVA internal cushion linings and metal joints for stability and durability.

Each suit has a sensor enclosure opening system that slides the face plate up and down and is powered by AAA batteries, and a jetpack that flips out. The factory that employs between 30 and 40 people is producing three types of suites – Iron Man Mark III Full Armored Suit for $1999, Just the Iron Man Helmet Mark III (3D Printed) for $1299 and Iron Man Mark III Full Armored Suit (3D Printed) for $35,000.

The company claims to have 5,000 pre-orders of the $2,000 suit, which will take eight months of production time to build it with injection molding. Iron Man Factory currently produces toys and parts for routers, smartphones, and other devices.

But is it a scam? The Iron Man Mark III project from Iron Man Factory must get license from Marvel to sell 3D-printed. The suit is in violation of more than 80 copyrights and licensing agreements, which includes the copyright monolith Disney, and the comic company Marvel itself. As per the latest update from the company’s website, the factory has been hit with copyright infringement claims from Marvel (its website is shuttered for maintenance and says we are currently discussing with Marvel on licensing.)
