3 Smart Car solutions for 2014 : Resolution keepers

This is the final part of SiliconANGLE’s 2014 Internet of Things Resolution Keepers series, and this time we’ll be discussing Smart Car solutions.

Driving and owning a car can get pretty complicated.  There’s so much to consider especially when you have a family with teenagers and toddlers that needs constant supervision.  Do you know where your teenage son or daughter takes your car when they go out?  Do you know if your toddler is safely tucked in their car seat?  When was the last time you had your oil changed?  What’s that sound coming from your car?

Here are some Smart Car solutions to help you get some peace of mind and not regret owning a car in the first place.

3 Smart Car resolutions for 2014

iAlert

Driving with an infant or toddler in the car can be very distracting.  Parents often want to keep their eyes on their kids, which is not a safe thing to do while driving. A solution for this is the iAlert smart car seat.  It connects with a smartphone app and alerts you in real-time when your child has escaped, or if your child is left unattended (yes, this happens!) in the seat.   Not only that, it monitors the temperature in your car and alert you if its too cold or hot, so your kid will always be comfortable during road trips.

MyKey

Ford’s MyKey may become a necessity for parents of hormonal teenagers.  This key fob can be programmed to disable the car’s sound system if the seatbelt isn’t fastened, or set off an alarm if the car is speeding beyond the limit.

The MyKey system will also warn teens when the car is close to running low on fuel, and it even has a “Do Not Disturb” feature that puts calls and text messages on hold so teens won’t pick up their phones while driving. So if you’re worried that your teen doesn’t wear their seat belt when driving, or has a knack of driving like he’s in a game of Grand Theft Auto, owning a Ford and having a MyKey may just put your mind at ease.

Tag N Go’s GPS Safety System

Still on the topic of unruly drivers in your family, Tag N Go’s GPS Safety System may be the key into finding out how the rest of the drivers in your family act behind the wheel.  Just plug in the Family Car Tracker in the car to get insight on their driving behavior. It calculates your Drive Score for every trip, with detailed information on where and how to improve driving safety relative to speed, acceleration, cornering, and breaking habits.

Tag N Go also features engaging social media tools, real-time location tracking, and the ability to analyze past trips, which makes the system one of the most advanced telematics solutions in the market today.  With its driver evaluation feature, Tag N Go is very useful for driving schools, as it will make it easier for them to assess how well or poorly the student driver is doing and know exactly what they’re doing wrong.
