SOASTA cloud based testing shapes Olympics games for 10 years

olympics-logoCloud based testing simulations can help prevent web disasters during games like the prestigious Olympics. For the last Olympic official site, London2012.com, the London Organizing Committee used SOASTA cloud-based testing tools to simulate up to a billion people accessing the site from several countries.

The Mountain View, Calif., firm announced that Olympic Committee has awarded the company to serve as the application tester for the International Olympic Committee’s IT operations. SOASTA has been awarded the contract for 10 years to assure quality web and mobile user experiences for the 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 Olympic Games.

SOASTA has established itself as an expert in running testing for large events because it was an early implementer of testing applications as large scale. During the London Olympics, SOASTA’s CloudTest software used 17 servers to overwhelm the website and find out whether it could survive the intensive use. The company’s testing methodology handled 431 million global visitors, 109 million unique users, 15 million application downloads, and 4.73 billion page views. Last year, SOASTA used its Global Test Platform to test web and mobile testing for the Sochi Olympics.

“SOASTA was honored to be awarded our first Olympics engagement for the 2012 London Games,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO.  “By assuring the delivery of high quality web and mobile experiences for the millions of Olympics fans across the world for London 2012 and Sochi 2014, we are honored that the SOASTA team and technology has earned the trust of the Olympics for the next 10 years.  In the near future we will see the Internet of Things as part of the Olympic experience, with even higher expectations for quality user experiences every time.”

SOASTA uses the benefits of cloud computing to provide a flexible environment that requires no hardware investment–a perfect fit for games like Olympics, where the organizer needn’t to worry about the hardware. The interactive dashboard of SOASTA displays a real-time consolidated view of performance indicators that you choose to monitor. During the test, terabytes of data can be collected from the monitoring systems.

SOASTA has been expanding its presence globally and expanding its partnerships, and has continued to deliver innovation in a consistent fashion. The company was named as the leader of Integrated Software Quality Suites in Gartner’s 2013 Magic Quadrant last year. The combination of SOASTA’s strong real-time analytics with a codeless automation environment and RUM solution provides a good foundation for driving improved test effectiveness.
