The stage is set for this year’s Open Networking Summit, which kicks off today, March 3 and will last until March 5, 2014 at the Santa Clara Convention Center & Hyatt in Santa Clara, CA.

Open Networking Summit 2014

You can get the latest buzz from ONS itself by following them on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter – @OpenNetSummit.  You can also get the latest news from theCube, SiliconANGLE’s premier video production hosted by SiliconANGLE CEO John Furrier @furrier, and Wikibon CEO Dave Vellante @dvellante.

Seeking disruptors, enterprise aid

 .

At the event, Broadcom already introduced the OpenFlow Data Plane Abstraction abstraction, or OF-DPA v1.0, which is regarded as the first open source reference implementation of a physical OpenFlow switch.  It is designed to enable network virtualization use cases on top of Broadcom’s StrataXGS line of Ethernet switches and address the high performance and scalability issues traditionally found in SDN environments.

Redefining software’s role in the data center is what this event is all about, attracting early adopters ready to shake up an industry currently dominated by familiar names like Cisco and Broadcom. Open source initiatives are central to industry disruption, and that’s where events like ONS come into play. We’ll be looking for ways in which SDN is shaping a long-standing business model for the networking market, and how emerging technology can help transition the enterprise to the modern data center.

Stay tuned for more of SiliconANGLE’s coverage to find out the latest happenings on SDN, OpenFlow and more.
