JumpCloud releases server orchestration automation platform for DevOps

jumpcloud-logoAs DevOps begins to loom large in the industry, especially in startups where there is no clear distinction between developers and the IT department, JumpCloud seeks to offer tools to help IT and DevOps achieve high levels of reliability. This means the the ability to avoid unplanned downtime and manage development environments without disruption and delays.

The JumpCloud service now offers its cloud hosting-based server orchestration platform that help users to automate the execution of server management tasks and workflows across a group of servers. According to the company, the orchestration platform significantly reduces errors and time spent on manual server management tasks and workflows, and increase uptime, consistency of operations, and availability by centralizing and making visible scripts created in an ad hoc fashion.

All the automated tasks and tools are auditable and the executions are stored and logged for further analysis in case of system failures. This enables DevOps and IT to keep a track of failure reasons and automate tasks together of their existing workflow. The platform is also builds in new capabilities for the IT organization.

Some of the new features of server orchestration platform includes SSH/privileged user management, support for bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, Go, Node.js, or any other language, admin activity monitoring, audit logging of executed scripts and commands, patch detection, trigger commands or scripts via Webhooks, scheduled or ad-hoc execution of scripts or commands, JSON-based REST API, secure access to all servers and compliance.

For a long time now admins (and developers tasked with administration) have automated processes themselves with collections of scripts or done the work manually. “No longer,” says Rajat Bhargava, President & CEO of JumpCloud. “There is no reason that some of the brightest and innovative people on the planet should be manually managing servers.”

The impetus behind JumpCloud’s server orchestration capabilities is to aid relaxing the duties of DevOps and IT administrators so that they can get back to their job and not worry about what the server is doing.

JumpCloud recently extended the reach of its automation tools to more developers through the Marketplace for Rackspace Hosting. The addition of JumpCloud to the Marketplace is helping users effectively leverage the full potential of the infrastructure they host with Rackspace. It also helping IT teams using Rackspace Hosting to automate server management capabilities with JumpCloud.
