No sales? No problem. Docker reported close to $40M+ venture deal
Red-hot startup Docker, Inc., the creator of the Docker open-source container project, is on the verge of clinching between $40 million and $75 million worth of funding, according to unnamed sources cited by GigaOM.
The article says the investment round slaps a massive $400 million valuation on Docker, which is a lot for a company whose revenue plans are unclear.
But investors are clearly looking at longer-term potential. While no one expects Docker to usurp VMware’ Inc. virtualization lead, containers are expected to significantly cut into the virtualization market. Docker is working on the revenue issue.
Major players like Google and Red Hat, Inc., have already jumped aboard the container ship, and Amazon Web Services is now wading in.
