Cloud Media launches Linux hub for IoT

Cloud Media, the maker of entertainment box Popcorn Hour, launched a project on Kickstarter, Inc. that will add to the growing number of smart hubs for people to connect and control smart devices.  Called the STACK Box, it features a Cavium ARM11 core processor, 256MB DDR3 RAM, 512MB flash, SD slot, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth LE 4.0, Z-Wave, standard 10/100 Ethernet port, optional X10 wired communication, 5 USB 2.0 ports, RS-232 port, 2 optocoupler I/O, Xbee Bus, Raspberry Pi-compatible 26-pin bus and runs Linus Kernel 3.10. IT also features optional wireless communications for Dust Networks and Insteon with RF433/315, EnOcean, ZigBee, XBee, DCLink, RFID, IR coming soon.

What makes STACK Box different from other smart home hubs is its openness. The hardware itself is expandable and developers and users can run their own apps as a main function. By keeping STACK Box open, the project can change and adapt as more connected devices come out in the market.

Upon availability, STACK Box will be able to integrate with most connected home appliances such as the Wemo line of smart devices, hue, smart locks and all brands of compatibles UPnP/DLNA and Bluetooth speakers.

VEEDIMS to launch IoT developer website soon

Veedims, LLC, a company that empowers the Internet of Things IoT with its “smart” open platform and single Plug ‘n Run disruptive technology, announced the launch of its redesigned website that introduces the company’s IoT technology to the world.

The redesigned site now features product descriptions, images, technical data of VEEDIMS IoT hardware, software and security systems. Veedims also has a new portal called the “Diary of Things,” a daily technology and market intelligence report for IoT news, insights, ongoing mergers, acquisitions and key market innovators and how they impact the industrial landscape.

Veedims is also in its final stages of designing a new developer website where integrators and software developers can access API/SDK tools to build their own Veedims IoT solutions.

A partnership to launch first IP camera platform

Weaved, Inc., Kii Corp. and Astak Inc. announced a partnership that will focus on the release of the world’s first IP camera platform, miniMole, with a wholesale distribution model, open API-based SDK and online developer portal. The three companies have already made their marks in the Internet of Things space. Weaved is a pioneer in IoT connectivity services, Astak is a leader in consumer and industrial connected cameras and Kii is the only cloud-based mobile backend provider that powers IoT applications.

The partnership offers a unique combination of hardware, software, and cloud services so device manufacturers and service providers can get their hands on a complete solution that has the potential to increase upsell revenue by adding IP camera functionality to their own offerings.

Developers will have access to an open platform that will enable them to create connected camera apps which includes functionality such as cloud DVR services with event timelines, advanced audio or motion detection triggers, alarm filters, analytics, and integration with other 3rd party Apps. The IP camera platform also features device discovery, user authentication, secured peer-to-peer and relay connections over the Internet, low-latency live streaming video and audio services.

The open miniMole platform will be entering Beta this summer and early adopters are invited to join the program. Beta developers will receive miniMole hardware and access to the Beta SDK and open APIs to access the Weaved cloud services. The developer portal will feature a tool chain, code base, and documentation.
