Silver Spring Networks’ enhanced smart water solution

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. announced its enhanced smart water solution, which now supports improved water metering for multi-service municipal utilities.  As part of the updated water metering system, the company will be integrating its standards-based IPv6 network with multiple modules from Master Meter Inc. to deliver its two-way advanced water solutions for municipal and co-op utilities.

“Traditionally, water utility customers have had limited options to manage their usage, as they would retrospectively receive their bill at the end of the month, quarter, or year. With our next-generation, two-way water solution, we are going beyond simple meter reading by providing a more granular and interactive experience that includes on demand reads, interval data collection and asynchronous alarming,,” said Josh Roper, Vice President of Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Silver Spring Networks. “In the same way that utilities are starting to leverage a single, multi-application network for advanced metering infrastructure and street lights, they now also have the option to offer their customers near real-time understanding of their water usage.”

New partnership to connect commercial real estate for IoT

At this week’s Oracle OpenWorld 2014, Enlighted Inc. announced that its lighting-powered sensor network platform, distributed intelligence, and energy and occupancy analytics will play a key role in the integrated Building Energy and Asset Management (BEAM) solution offered by Hitachi Consulting Corp. and Oracle Corp.

The BEAM partnership is led by Hitachi Consulting and Oracle with Johnson Controls, Hitachi Data Systems and Hitachi Industrial Components and Equipment Division also contributing. The holistic BEAM solution enables companies to significantly drive down energy costs, improve asset and employee utilization, and reduce maintenance costs.

Enlighted offers one of the most advanced wireless sensor networks for commercial real estate, providing energy savings and actionable data and analytics for buildings. The company’s smart system not only saves energy in commercial environments, but also increases comfort of occupants by adapting to individual and ambient lighting conditions.

“This program is the imminent example of the Internet of Things (IoT) for buildings offered as a single product,” said Joe Costello, CEO of Enlighted. “With the Enlighted system playing hand in hand with cloud infrastructure, building management infrastructure and building management system data, the business value is limitless.”
