CenturyLink Principal Architect Matt Olson In theCUBE During Splunk.conf 2014

Currently undergoing a massive transformation into a data services company, CenturyLink turns to data management solutions from Splunk, Inc. The third largest telecom in the USA, CenturyLink uses Splunk to “break down data silos very easily,” explained Matt Olson, the company’s principal architect. Initially using Splunk for simple long parsing and operational tasks, CenturyLink quickly realized they could do prototype development very quickly, and that those prototypes were fully functional.

Some of CenturyLink’s more frequent use cases revolve around pain points and problem solving, Olson explained in a live interview with theCUBE co-hosts Jeff Frick and Jeff Kelly at Splunk.conf 2014. Splunk “can really quickly provide a view of where your service is failing,” then prototyping a solution and solve the failure, he shared.

The company’s next step involves cloud where the challenge is “tying all the pieces involved in service delivery.”
