The Financial Post has reported that Blackberry Ltd. has attained 27 new U.S. patents. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Official Gazette, included in the patents are security features and a user interface for a conference-calling system.

Blackberry has seen high demand for their Blackberry Passport, which has ultimately led them to explore other avenues.

In an interview with the Jakarta Post, BlackBerry’s president for global enterprise solutions, John Sims said “We will [also] soon be launching something called BBM Meetings. It is a service that allows voice and video conferences for groups of about 25 people”.

Another of the patents that have been issued is the ability to unlock a smartphone, without requiring a lock code, as long as the phone is in close proximity to a compatible wearable device; whether or not this device will be in the form of a watch, only time will tell.

In an upcoming launch in November, Blackberry is expected to reveal an updated Business Enterprise Server and a new phone, the BlackBerry Classic.

BlackBerry CEO, John Chen, reported that the company would be showing off new devices at the 2015 Mobile World Congress conference to be held in Barcelona in March.
