theCUBE Live at Dell World 2014 Michael Dell
Dell Inc. has been a private company for several months now, and even as the IT industry struggles to refocus efforts from high-margin hardware sales to lower-margin software services, Dell has taken the uncharted path and is already claiming success.
At Dell World this week we hope to gain insight on Dell’s forthcoming strategy, and how the company has fared in its efforts so far. Broadcasting live from the event in Austin, TX, SiliconANGLE’s roving news desk theCUBE is on the ground to extract the signal from the noise.
Here’s a quick guide on the conference highlights, what to expect and how you can participate in the conversations.
Dell World is all about emerging trends such as cloud computing, network security, data protection, virtualization and BYOD, as the company revamps its products for the new world of converged infrastructure and Flash-enabled components. See details on Dell’s product announcements here.
This year’s speakers include Dell chairman of the board of directors and CEO Michael Dell, principal research scientist at MIT Andrew McAfee, Chairman and CEO fo X PRIZE Foundation Dr. Peter H. Diamandis, Samahope co-founder Shivani Garg Patel, and others.
Dell is offering a free app for iOS, Android and HTML5 to help attendees build their schedule, stay on top of the event, learn more about the speakers, exhibitors and sponsors.
One key area to follow regarding Dell’s potential strategy is whether the now-private company has the means to pull the trigger on necessary acquisitions, and if Dell will be able to incorporate the previous two years-worth of acquisitions in order to remain competitive.
Wikibon.org analysts agree that Dell’s new architecture is aiming to provide a better footprint with IT infrastructure, indicative of the company’s goals to attract open source supporters and developers as the path to enterprise clients.
The questions we’ll be asking at the event are regarding Dell’s long term business strategy, where cloud fits into Dell’s pipeline, and the area in which Dell sees itself as #1. In the past, Dell has been #1 at supply chain management for selling PCs, applying a similar strategy to IT hardware for the enterprise. In the cloud era, Dell will need to rethink its strategy yet again.
