Prynt case lets you print your smartphone photos instantly

pryntPrynt, a small French start-up has developed a case that will turn your smartphone into a Polaroid camera. Prynt did a show-and-tell for the team at TechCrunch. Here are the highlights:

The current prototype of the Prynt case takes 50 seconds to print your photo, with the connection between the smartphone and the camera case happening via Bluetooth. The current version is also only able to hold one sheet of paper.

However, their plans for the consumer version will have the case holding between 10 and 30 sheets of paper, and the ability to print a photo in 30 seconds. The quicker printing of photos will be thanks to improvements in hardware integration, and because ‘no paring will be required’. A user will simply be able to plug their smartphone directly into the Prynt case and print their photos.

The Prynt case is not just a portable smartphone printer, but also offers an augmented reality feature. When the Prynt app is used to take a photo, it also takes a video and records the moments when the photo was taken. The video is sent to the cloud and is displayed as an overlay on the physical photo when you view it through your smartphone lens.

The company is also working on adding a layer of security to the pixels so that a photo of a photo will not display the video, as well as the ability for a completely different video to display when viewing a Prynt photo.

A Kickstarter for the project will begin early next year, and in an interview with TechCrunch, Prynt CEO Clément Perrot said, “The case will only cost $99 when first made available”.

Initially they will only be able to support 4.x-inch screen smartphones; however, they are working on a version to support larger phones.
