Apple launches ‘Apps for (RED)’ –gigantic campaign to support World AIDS Day 2014

apps for redOn Sunday Apple Inc. announced a special campaign for World AIDS Day 2014. Starting today, Monday, November 24 through Sunday, December 7, it will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from 25 special apps to (RED) to help fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in developing countries. In addition to this, a percentage of its retail and online sales on Friday, November 28 (Black Friday) and Monday, December 1 (Cyber Monday), will also be donated to the charity.

The 25 apps feature exclusive content and are available in a special ‘Apps for (RED)’ section in the App Store. Whether you are purchasing the app for the very first time or making an in-app purchase/upgrade, 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. The apps participating in the campaign include:  Angry Birds, Bubble Witch 2 Saga, CSR Racing, Clash of Clans, Despicable Me, FarmVille 2, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team, Kitchen Stories Cookbook, Clear, Paper, DJay2 and more. In conjunction with this, on Black Friday, November 28, Apple customers in the U.S. will receive a special edition (RED) iTunes gift card with the purchase of select Apple products. Apple will donate a percent of each gift card handed out to the Global Fund.  And on Monday, December 1, which is also Cyber Monday and World AIDS Day, a percentage of every sale at Apple’s retail and online stores will also be contributed to the Global Fund.

This is not the first time Apple and (Product) RED have joined forces. Over the course of the partnership Apple has released a number of (RED) devices to support the charity. These have included iPod nanos, shuffles and touches, a range of iPad Smart Covers and iPhone Cases. Every sale of a (RED) product sees a portion of the proceeds donated to (RED). Back in June (RED) announced in a blog post that Apple had donated $75 million to date to the charity.
