Ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), scheduled to take place in Las Vegas early in January 2015, LG Electronics Inc. has unveiled some innovative new mobile features for its Music Flow wireless speaker system.
The lineup includes a new battery-powered portable Wi-Fi enabled speaker, two new Wi-Fi sound bars and a streaming 3D Blu-ray Player, all of which can be used independently or connected to each other to create a stereo setup. The speakers are compatible with both Android and iOS devices and using LG’s Music Flow app, in conjunction with music streaming services like Spotify, Rhapsody or TuneIn, music is streamed directly to the speakers from a smartphone or tablet.
The LG Music Flow Wi-Fi series has the usual features like Bluetooth connectivity and home Wi-Fi network integration, but there are two features LG claims sets the new system apart from those offered by competitors.
Firstly, thanks to the Auto Music Play feature, music playing on a smartphone or tablet will automatically start playing on a Music Flow Wi-Fi speaker when the device comes within one foot of the speaker. According to LG this is what it could look like in the real world:
So you could be listening to music on your headphones on the subway ride home but the music will begin playing automatically from your living room Wi-Fi Sound Bar when you enter your living room.
Secondly, users can send commands to the speaker system via text message. The feature, called LG HomeChat, lets users control the LG devices with the LINE messaging app to send commands like “play songs for party” or “turn off music after one hour.” LG says HomeChat also allows users to set alarms for upcoming events.
LG has not indicated how much the speaker system will cost once it goes on sale, but they will be showcasing it at CES 2015 taking place in Las Vegas from January 6 to January 9.
