German watchmaker Montblanc International GmbH is entering the wearable tech space with a smart watchband.
According to reports, the watchband, named the e-Strap features a high-end leather strap with a carbon fiber texture the company calls “Extreme Montblanc Leather.” Attached is a 0.9 inch monochromatic OLED touchscreen display with a 128×36 pixel resolution made from “diamond like carbon coated steel.”
The company has said that in addition to basic calls, texts, e-mails, calendars, social media, and reminder notifications, the e-Strap also provides an activity monitor/tracker with a pedometer and accelerometer.
Connected to your phone via Bluetooth 4.0, others uses include the ability to control your phones music player and as a remote phone camera trigger.
The e-Strap will be available for sale as a standalone product with a list price of €250 ($300,) or attached to various Montblanc watches starting from €2990 ($3588.)
The Montblanc e-Strap isn’t the first smart watchband; we covered the Kairos T-Band late December, but it is the first from a premium high end watch maker.
The formal unveiling on the e-Strap is set for the watch trade show SIHH 2015 in Geneva January 19th.
