Nest adds 15 new partners to the Works with Nest program | #CES2015

nestNest Labs Inc. have today announced 15 new partners for its Works with Nest program that will see the companies’ smart thermostats and smoke detectors work with everything, from light bulbs to smart washing machines.

The ways various devices interact with the Nest system are as diverse as the companies themselves.

Philips N.V.’s Hue globes work with the system by flashing on and off to get your attention if the Nest system detects there is something wrong.

The Nest Thermostat is able to let your Whirlpool Corp. made washer and dryer know when you’re home so they can automatically switch to quiet mode.

If you’ve got a Kevo Smart Lock from Kwikset Corp. or an August Smart Lock from August Home Inc., they can tell your Nest Thermostat who’s home and what temperature they like. Conversely they also helps Nest know when no one’s home, so your thermostat doesn’t waste energy.

For smart alerts, the Ooma Inc. VOIP service works with Nest to learn when you come and go; if something unexpected happens – like a family member not arriving home on schedule, the phone can alert you.

Some of the new linked services are available now, some are coming later.

Available now: August smart lock, Automatic driving assistant, Insteon, LG appliances, Lutron, Ooma Telo, Philips Hue, Unikey / Kevo smart lock and Withings Aura sleep system.

Coming soon: Beep Dial (February,) Big Ass Fans (February,) Osram smart bulb (February/March,) Whirlpool appliances (April,) Zuli smart plug (April,) and the Chargepoint home EV charging stations (June).

nest2The new partners add to a an already impressive list of companies signed to the Works with Nest program, including Mercedes Benz, Jawbone, Pebble Technology Corp., Logitech International S.A. and others.

Nest claims that 1 in 10 of its customers already utilize connected devices under the program, and this figure is likely to grow rapidly with more partners and devices becoming available.

The formal announcement by the Google-owned company was made at the Consumer Electronics Show being held in Las Vegas this week.
