No new 4-inch iPhone for 2015, says Apple supply chain rumor
New rumors have emerged that squash the original rumors around Apple Inc. releasing a new 4-inch iPhone later this year.
Rumors started flying around over a month ago about a possible 4-inch iPhone for 2015. Last week fuel was added to the flames when Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen and Company, was reportedly told by sources that Apple were working on a 4-inch model.
However, according to sources from Apple’s supply chain, this latest rumor was disputed on Monday. In response to Arcuri’s rumor, the Wei Feng Network have suggested that there is no indication that Apple is planning a new 4-inch iPhone, due to the fact that Apple have not tasked any of its suppliers with new orders for a revised 4-inch iPhone.
Arcuri isn’t new to Apple rumors and by January last year he had had already correctly revealed some features of the iPhone 6, which went on to launch in September 2014. However, there were some other features, like a faster processor, that did not pan out.
Apple does continue to sell their 4-inch devices; however, the iPhone 5s and 5c lack some key features like the ability for direct Apple Pay usage, which Apple may want to rectify with an updated device in the future. However, with consumers showing a preference for larger screens, Apple may not be looking to continue their 4-inch versions.
If Apple continue with their usual release strategy, then come the usual September launch date, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be reduced by $100 and make up the middle tier. The iPhone 5c will fall away and the iPhone 5s will make up the lower tier.
There is plenty of time to go before Apple has their launch in September, so the amount of rumors that are likely to be flying around between now and then will increase significantly leading up to launch date. Supply chain rumors also tend to become more accurate closer to the Apple launch date.
