Sony's Special 20th Anniversary Edition of the PS4 NEWS

A $129,000 PS4 and two new releases, today in gaming news

Sony's Special 20th Anniversary Edition of the PS4

When Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. announced a limited run, twentieth anniversary edition of the PlayStation 4, there was speculation that the console could become a hot item on auction for buyers who were not able to nab one of the 12,300 units.

Those predictions came true recently when one wealthy PlayStation fan shelled out close to $129,000 at an auction held by Sony for one of the rare gray consoles, making it one of the most expensive game systems in history.

“We appreciate all who participated in the auction and are surprised at the highest bid price, which was higher than our expectations,” said a representative for Sony.

Sony said that it has contacted the auction winner to work out the payment for the system, and it will be donating the proceeds to charity along with a matching donation from the company.

New and old games releasing today

Two new games are dropping this week on multiple systems: Zombie survival game Dying Light and classic point-and-click adventure Grim Fandango.

Dying Light takes the somewhat stale concept of the zombie apocalypse and attempts to provide a new twist in a saturated genre. The game shies away from shotguns and action film bravado and instead focuses on freerunning and survival in an open world. Much like the 2006 game Dead Rising, the zombies in Dying Light become more active and dangerous at night, but they still pose a threat during the day.

Dying Light is available for Windows, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Grim Fandango is not new – in fact, it originally released in 1998 – but it is coming back in a remastered version with improved resolutions and updated visuals. Grim Fandango is a comedic film noir story set in a colorful Day of the Dead world similar to the recent film, The Book of Life. As with the remastered edition of The Secret of Monkey Island released in 2009, players can switch to the classic game graphics at the touch of a button.

Grim Fandango is available for Windows, Linux, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. It looks like Xbox One fans are out of luck on this one.
