Twin Prime exits stealth and bags $9.5M to speed up mobile content delivery

loading please waitTwin Prime, Inc., a start-up claiming to solve delays in mobile data delivery, came out of stealth mode this week and has announced a funding round of $9.5 million.

The Series A round funding is led by DFJ Ventures and True Ventures, as well as participation from Moment Ventures and Milliways Ventures. Om Malik, a partner at True Ventures and the founder of GigaOm, which recently closed down, and Bubba Murarka, from DFJ, will both be joining the Board of Directors at Twin Prime.

Murarka said, “We are backing Twin Prime because of the company’s strong leadership team and its technology solution. Twin Prime understands that each mobile session has unique requirements, and they overcome these challenges by automatically optimizing for every mobile session.”

“True is excited to back the Twin Prime team as they are focused on a problem that is rapidly growing in magnitude. Until now, mobile’s inconsistent and often erratic performance has made content delivery up to three times slower than on traditional PCs,” said Malik. “Companies risk not only their reputation on that sub-par experience, but it impacts their bottom line. Twin Prime’s unique solution solves the complex challenges of the mobile ecosystem and represents a paradigm shift for organizations looking to speed content delivery via mobile apps.”

Twin Prime said in a statement that even the smallest delay in mobile content delivery can result in significant revenue losses for companies. According to statistics, every 100-millisecond delay in mobile content delivery can equate to a one percent drop in revenue; with 40 percent of mobile retail customers waiting only three seconds for content to load before leaving for a competitor.

The company is working with app developers to ensure apps do not face any performance issues, thus assisting companies with any latency issues and loss of potential revenue.

Twin Prime’s patent-pending technology is called Global Location based Acceleration Strategies (GLAS) and relies on automated hypothesis testing, whereby evaluation of a number of variables can occur. Optimization strategies can be developed and automatic selection of the best strategy can happen every time the mobile app is used. The automatic deployment of the strategy means there is no need for an app to be resubmitted to the app store.

Kartik Chandrayana and Satish Raghunath cofounded Twin Prime in 2013, but the company was bootstrapped until their $9.5 million funding announcement this week. Twin Prime will use the funding to expand customer support, product development, as well as sales and marketing. Chandrayana, whose experience includes roles at Bell Labs, Cisco Systems, and Blue Coat Systems, Inc., said, “We are dedicated to providing the next-generation mobile experience. It’s where business has evolved and it’s a greenfield opportunity that we are ready to deliver on.”
