Intuit Inc. has acquired San Francisco based StartX alumni Playbook HR for an undisclosed amount.
Playbook HR offers a solution for on-demand marketplaces to manage the hiring, on-boarding and compliance needs of independent contractors.
Its initial product release offers an applicant tracking system, but the company had plans to move into workforce management and, later, performance management, payroll and benefits.
Playbook HR’s applicant tracking system allows end users to automate processes, including collecting and filtering candidate information; enables mass communications by offering batch actions that includes scheduling and emailing/SMS; the ability to review applicants, including background screenings; and collaborative features that allow a team to manage the hiring process.
Intuit’s Vice President and General Manager Alex Chriss said in a post on the Intuit blog that the company wants “to make it easier for independent contractors to manage their finances and pay their taxes, and we also want to make it possible for on-demand marketplaces to manage their growing rosters of independent contractors and help them stay within the compliance guidelines.”
Playbook HR will continue to trade a separate business and will continue to serve existing and future customers; however, Intuit said that over the long-term it did plan to integrate the product with QuickBooks Online Self Employed “to provide an efficient end-to-end compliance experience for the on-demand economy.”
Founded in only April 2014, the company was a graduate of StartX, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “accelerate the development of Stanford’s top entrepreneurs through experiential education,” or put more simply, is an incubator of sorts.
