Catalogic Software announces integration with IBM Storewize | #IBMEdge

Catalogic Software takes a different approach to data management, holding a vision to deliver a Copy Data Management platform that works across all major storage brands and hypervisors. In line with that vision, Catalogic Software CEO Ed Walsh told theCUBE during IBM Edge2015 that it will integrate with IBM’s Storwize, SVC, V9000, and FlashCopy Manager platforms.

“In those environments, you can download out software, and you can leverage those environments for automated DR and test dev analytics,” said Walsh. “You get more data leverage, but also you save a lot of copies.”

Leveraging data already in place across platforms

Catalogic Software allows a user to leverage the technology already in place. “We’re aligned with how the enterprise can consume copy data management and how the ecosystem wants to deploy it,” said Walsh. “We’re software only. We don’t make you move your bits from your platform to ours. We allow you to see what you have and leverage that data, but we do it across platforms.”

Catalogic Software serves as the control layer. Walsh said it has no interest in becoming the data layer. “We integrate with SVC. We do public API work. Any VMware environment, regardless of what storage it’s on, we can give you copy data management. We can also do it on key IBM platforms.”

Automatic daily DR

Copy Data Management also works well in flash environments. “In a flash environment, it’s mission critical,” said Walsh. “It’s either a critical application that you’re rolling out or it’s a critical piece of your environment that you want access to. If it’s that critical, you’re going to want to do daily DR. In a flash environment, without changing anything — we’re not in line — you can have automatic daily DR, which you can’t do with any other solutions set.”

Walsh said that Catalogic Software’s approach epitomizes software-defined solutions. “We work across IBM’s portfolio and across different hardware. That’s software defined.”
