Oracle sees momentum around Cloud | #datacenter

Just before Oracle’s announcement at its Oracle Cloud Launch yesterday, Steve Daheb, Oracle’s SVP of PaaS, BI, Mobile, Security and EPM Business Groups, sat down with theCUBE to discuss Oracle’s investment in Cloud offerings.

To date, the company has seen impressive results from its Oracle Cloud Platform.

“There is a great amount of momentum around Cloud, not only from a bookings perspective but from a customer perspective — we have 1,400 customers in platform services alone. We’re seeing tremendous adoption,” he said. “We’re going to continue to show the commitment we’ve made with the suite of new services that we plan to roll out.”

Apps are key components

Lots of companies tout Cloud as their latest perk. What sets Oracle apart?

“This has been decades in development,” said Daheb. “This is understanding the customers’ needs and doing it the right way. Oracle has been very thoughtful. The company is about four decades old now. Oracle has been there to help transition people, to connect information to applications, and that’s what we’re still doing today.”

Apps are the key component these days, and Oracle does not lag in this department.

“We have everything to cover the customer experience — ERP, HR systems, sales and marketing systems,” Daheb explained. “We can offer those systems to any segment of the market. We have a platform that allows you to bring apps forward to the Cloud and mobilize them. We have a platform that allows you to take new apps and extend their capabilities, integrate them, and manage them across premise and hybrid. We offer choice and uniquely guide customers through this journey.”

Daheb also said that customers may see some competitive pricing options with the recent Cloud services announcement. “We own the pieces down to the silicon,” he said. “There are some interesting things that we can do to be competitive from an IaaS perspective.”
