It’s all about developers, developers, developers, Microsoft said at its Build conference earlier this year. And with that in mind Microsoft has said that on July 20th, nine days before the official release of Windows 10, it will target developers with the release of Visual Studio 2015, Team Foundation Server 2015 and .NET Framework 4.6. This follows the Visual Studio 2015 Preview and .NET 2015 Preview.
The emphasis here is on cross-platform development. Microsoft has called this a “big release”, adding in the same blog post that, “We are opening up Visual Studio to developers targeting new platforms – from cross-platform mobile development targeting iOS, Android and Windows, to game development targeting Unity, Unreal, Cocos and more. At the same time, Visual Studio 2015 redefines developer productivity with proactive diagnostics tooling and the new Roslyn language services for C# and VB.”
Visual Studio 2015 will be offered as a subscription for both Enterprise and Pro versions, as well as a version of Visual Studio Professional that requires no subscription. On top of that there will be a free Visual Studio Community edition that focuses on education, academic research and open source projects. A full list of products and price outline can be found here.
Anyone interested in learning more about the new releases can join the online Visual Studio 2015 final release event on July 20 at 3:30 pm UTC (8:30 am PDT).
