theCUBE cohosts Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman got Day One of Red Hat Summit underway with a discussion of Red Hat, Inc.’s role in the PaaS layer.
Vellante asked Miniman if Docker could deliver such end-to-end integration.
“Docker is a tool, but building up the stacks and having knowledge to build those applications is a lot of work,” said Miniman. He continued by noting that Cloud-native applications is where the work is at.
Miniman and Vellante also discussed Open Container platform. “I would want to have something that will work across multiple environments,” said Miniman. “CoreOS and Docker are two of the main players, and they have similar missions.”
Regarding Red Hat, Vellante noted that the company has been “baking” for years but now enjoys a $15 billion market valuation. It has strong business in Linux, and its OpenShift and Cloud Platform are growing. Miniman added that Red Hat needs to make strides in the enterprise market.
Red Hat is expanding its solutions set, said Vellante, and plans to have a stronger presence in the PaaS space. They are also “fully committed” to the open source message.
