Rumored iPhone 6s vs. iPhone 6

Apple is expected to unveil the next generation of its iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 6s in the media, in September. Every generation of iPhone improves on the last, and the iPhone 6s will be no exception. While Apple’s ‘S’ models usually don’t differ that much from their standard counterparts, at least in the looks department, we can expect some improvements and new features.

Here is a look at how the iPhone 6s is rumored to stack up against the iPhone 6:

Design and dimension

iPhone 6: The phone features an ion-strengthened cover glass, rounded edges and curves that seamlessly connect with the anodized aluminum enclosure at the back. The iPhone 6 measures 138.1 mm x 67 mm x 6.9 mm and weighs 129 g, making it Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone to date.

iPhone 6s: Rumors and leaked images point at Apple retaining an identical exterior design for its ‘S’ line of devices. Sources have said that if the iPhone 6s is any thicker than the iPhone 6 – it may need to be to accommodate a bigger battery – it will be almost imperceptibly so.

Display

iPhone 6: 4.7-inch LED-backlit widescreen Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology, 1334-by-750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi or Retina HD display, with fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.

iPhone 6s: Rumors suggest Apple already has the iPhone 6s in early production and that the device includes Force Touch. While most of the display specs should remain the same as on the iPhone 6, the inclusion of Force Touch will require a flexible Retina display with built-in electrodes to differentiate between a light tap and a deep press in order to trigger a range of contextually specific controls.

Internal components

iPhone 6: A8 chip with 64-bit architecture and 1GB of RAM, M8 motion coprocessor, runs iOS 8.x, built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with talk time up to 14 hours on 3G a standby time up 250 hours, and 16/32/128GB internal storage.

iPhone 6s: Reputed KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have told investors that the iPhone 6s will come fitted with a  more powerful A9 processor and 2GB of RAM. Rumors also suggest Apple might drop the 16GB version, with the entry level iPhone 6s having 32GB of onboard storage. Likely to ship with iOS 9, the iPhone 6s should offer improved battery life thanks to software improvements and a new Low Power mode in the OS, combined with a new less power-hungry LTE chip.

Camera

iPhone 6: New 8 megapixel iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels, autofocus with focus pixels, true tone flash, five-element lens, sapphire crystal lens cover, auto image stabilization, burst mode, slo-mo video; 1.2MP FaceTime camera, burst selfie.

iPhone 6s: Kuo also expects the iPhone 6s to feature a 12-megapixel rear camera and Apple may include technology that could render SLR-quality images. Developer Hamza Sood discovered code in the first iOS 9 developer beta that adds support for a FaceTime camera with 1080p video capture, 240fps slo-mo video at 720p, a front-facing camera flash, and panoramic selfies.

Operating system

iPhone 6: At release, the iPhone 6 shipped with iOS 8 and currently iOS 8.4 is available.

iPhone 6s: Slated for release in September, the iPhone 6s will likely ship with Apple’s recently announced iOS 9.
