EMC’s gamble on Docker pays off | #DockerCon
EMC took a bet on Docker back in the early stages of development of its Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) hyperscale infrastructure solution. Kamal Srinivasan, principal product manager at EMC’s Advanced Software Division, spoke with theCUBE at DockerCon 2015 about the company’s gamble.
“For ECS 1.0, we were running in containers, so we placed a bet on it,” Srinivasan stated. “We said, ‘Docker is going to become big,’ and we found some really good use cases for Docker to be the big bet for us.”
Srinivasan described EMC’s ECS as “lego-based architecture’ for its modular architecture based on robust building blocks that allow independent scalability. With the new ECS 2.0 just released in June 2015, he explained, “We have a version that is much more scalable, thousands and thousands of nodes … I think we are ready for prime time on this.”
