Witcher 3 expansions will be ‘almost the size of The Witcher 2’

CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already has a reputation for being one of the most massive games to come out in recent years, with well over 100 hours of content and expansive maps to explore. The first paid DLC for The Witcher 3 is set to release this fall with another coming in early 2016, and according to game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the two DLC combined with nearly equal the entire content of the previous game in the series, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

“The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you’ve got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more,” Tomaszkiewicz told GameReactor. “They will be quite long. The first expansion will be around 10 hours and the second expansion will be around 20 hours… and I think it’s possible that they will be bigger, because it’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right now.”

He added, “And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool, it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy.”

The Witcher games, which are based on a series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, have put CD Projekt on the map, and the small Warsaw-based studio has earned respect from a large portion of the gaming community thanks to its strong anti-DRM stance and its dedication to giving people who buy its games all kinds of free bonuses.

CD Projekt’s games come with tons of free digital content like soundtracks, graphic novels, papercraft figures, and more. The studio has also released over a dozen free DLC for The Witcher 3, which included new weapons, armor, quests, and alternative looks for some of the characters.

In addition, CD Projekt has released several major patches to The Witcher 3, which fix bugs and other problems and add fan-requested features like item storage, inventory sorting, and more.
