Chef bridges the gap to Amazon Web Services with 1-click deployment launch

Last week DevOps automation industry leader Chef Software, Inc. announced the availability of Chef for the Amazon Web Services, Inc. cloud environment. This update also brings the configuration management and automation capabilities of Chef into the AWS cloud by enabling 1-click deployment for Chef, which allows customers rapid ease-of-install when migrating through the cloud.

Chef is following a strategy to bring its products in line with large cloud providers throughout 2015 and the company cites research from Gartner, Inc., which states that by 2016 DevOps will “evolve from a niche strategy… to a mainstream strategy” used by large cloud providers. The report further notes that DevOps will likely be employed by 25 percent of Global 2000 organizations for cloud operations.

“Chef is excited to expand our collaboration with AWS. AWS’s market leadership in cloud computing, coupled with our expertise in IT automation and DevOps practices, brings a new level of capabilities to our customers,” said Ken Cheney, Vice President of Business Development, Chef.

Chef seeks to ride that industry evolution that is using cloud computing to transform infrastructure and applications into services.

As part of this launch, Chef will become available in the AWS Marketplace and customers can therefore purchase Chef with 1-Click directly. Customers can then consume Chef at an hourly rate, paying based on scaling AWS resources.

Chef also brings DevOps to AWS Summit and Loft with tailored training and content. This means AWS customers visiting AWS Loft in San Francisco and New York City can learn more about DevOps success patterns. This includes training in interactive and test-driven development, and cross-team collaboration—all concepts central to the DevOps paradigm.
