Find out if the new iPhone is for you: 10 reasons to upgrade to the iPhone 6s
Apple’s new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will hit stores on September 25 and the Cupertino giant says it’s already taken pre-orders for around 10 million units over the first few days since announcing its latest iDevices.
If you’re on the fence about upgrading your current iPhone (or Android phone) to a new iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, we’d like to help you make a decision.
Here are the 10 standout new features (and reasons to upgrade) of the iPhone 6s Plus:
4K video recording
The iPhone 6s can shoot 4K video at four times the resolution of 1080p HD video and lets you snap 8-megapixel still images while recording. Combine this with the new iMovie for iOS that allows you to send 4K movies to YouTube and simultaneously edit two streams of 4K video footage to create effects like picture-in-picture and split screen, and you have a very powerful piece of pocket-sized video gear.
The bigger iPhone 6s Plus also includes optical image stabilization for video.
12-megapixel iSight camera
Despite a lack of megapixels when compared to other flagship smartphones, the iPhone has always been lauded for its camera. Now, the iPhone 6s features a 12-megapixel rear camera – that’s 50 percent more pixels than the 8-megapixel shooter on last few iPhone models.
Apple has also made a few software enhancements to improve image quality even further, including enhanced local tone mapping and noise reduction and adding optical image stabilization to the iPhone 6s Plus. In addition, Focus Pixels, first seen on the iPhone 6, has been incorporated in “tap to focus.” If you’re wondering, Focus Pixels is an image sensor technology used for phase detection autofocus and is superior to and faster than contrast detection autofocus.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. Take a look at Apple’s gallery of some truly stunning images and 4K video footage shot on the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
5-megapixel FaceTime camera with Retina Flash
Apple’s FaceTime camera has been upgraded from a 1.2-megapixel unit to 5-megapixels, so expect better quality selfies and much better video quality during FaceTime chats.
Most innovative, though, is the introduction of a Retina Flash which lights up the iPhone’s display up to 3x brighter to act as a flash for selfies.
Here’s how Apple explains the new Retina Flash:
When you snap a selfie, a preflash detects the lighting around you. Then a True Tone flash on the display matches the ambient light for a gorgeous shot with more true-to-life colors and more natural-looking skin tones.
Live Photos
Live Photos is a new feature for both the FaceTime and iSight cameras. This feature captures a photo as well as the moments just before and after it was taken, and it adds sounds and movement – when you deep press on a Live Photo (via 3D Touch), the photo plays out as a mini movie.

3D Touch
3D Touch is what Apple calls the “next generation” of Multi-Touch and adds force recognition to already familiar gestures like swiping, pinching, tapping and stretching. 3D Touch enables two new gestures, ‘peek’ and ‘pop.’
A light press on an app icon gives a user a ‘peek’ or preview while a harder press launches the app or ‘pops’ the user into the content.

2GB of RAM
Apple has finally increased the RAM on the iPhone 6s to 2GB, up from just 1GB on previous generations of iPhone. This should lead to a faster and more responsive experience, especially when running multiple apps.
A9 processor
Another spec for the geeks, the iPhone 6s is equipped with Apple 64-bit A9 processor. The A9 chip is 70 percent faster than the A8 on processing task and 90 percent faster for graphic-related tasks. Combined with the 2GB of RAM, the iPhone 6s will be significantly faster and smoother than previous models.
Faster LTE and Wi-Fi
In a nutshell, the iPhone 6s should be capable of much faster upload, download and web browsing speeds than its predecessor. This is thanks to upgraded LTE and Wi-Fi chips with support for 23 LTE bands and speeds of up to 300Mbps over LTE Advanced. Apple claims Wi-Fi transfer speeds of up to 866Mbps – twice as fast as the iPhone 6.
Faster Touch ID
On the iPhone 6s, the Touch ID sensor has been made larger and Apple claims it’s even faster than before.
Always-on “Hey Siri”
The new motion coprocessor in the iPhone 6s enables always-on “Hey Siri” functionality. This means you can now activate Siri hands-free even when your iPhone isn’t connected to a power source.
On top of all that, Apple has introduced a new iPhone upgrade program that will allow you to get a new iPhone every year.
