Big buzz on new markets at VMworld | #VMworld

Stu Miniman and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, discussed a full day of keynotes, lectures and interviews with IT leaders during VMworld.

Gracely noted that although the conference didn’t generate a lot of “pre-noise,” guests seemed excited about VMware, Inc.’s latest announcements. “VMware talked about hybrid cloud, containers and hyperconverged like crazy,” Gracely said. “People are excited that VMware is validating markets that were just buzzing a year ago.”

VMware expands Virtual SAN

Miniman noted VMware’s announcement to expand Virtual SAN software-defined storage with version 6.1, which reportedly adds greater abilities around availability and the management that can be performed in demanding storage environments.

Version 6.1 continues to deliver high performance and increased scale to provide enterprise-class storage for virtualized workloads, including tier-1 production and business-critical applications.

EVO SDDC debuts

The company also debuted EVO SDDC, a suite of software that includes existing VMware tools for managing data center resources, as well as a new “automation engine” and open-source hardware management software.

Gracely noted that enterprise companies aren’t the only ones taking notice. “Startups want to get into this space,” he said. “VMware is working through the challenges of this, which is encouraging. That there is room for other companies is encouraging.”

Miniman added, “It’s exciting to see how open we are to change and what that environment is going to look like.”
