Amazon decimates the landscape after redefining industry ‘rules’ | #reinvent
As day two of Amazon re:Invent 2015 concluded at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, John Furrier, Stu Miniman and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, ran down the themes of the day.
Scorched earth policy
To say the energy and excitement emanating from the event is palpable would be an understatement. The hosts conveyed the attendees’ enthusiasm about Amazon, the product releases and the company’s position in the marketplace.
Miniman summed up by saying, “Amazon has put the industry on watch.” Gracely gave Amazon a big thumbs up for innovation. However, Furrier goes a step further saying, “Amazon is decimating the landscape and leaving a scorched earth in the wake of their performance.”
Game changer
Scorched earth or not, Amazon is emerging as the one to beat in all areas of the industry because, as Gracely noted, “All the rules for the past 20 years are going away, and Amazon is redefining them.” He sees a radical change ahead from the old guard and feels Amazon is changing customer expectations. “If you don’t get something up in a minute or even five minutes you are decimated as a company.”
For the love of Amazon
In general, the event attendees include the t-shirt crowd along with the well-dressed crowd, and everyone is “feeling the Amazon love,” according to theCUBE hosts. The quote of the day came from theCUBE “alum” Jerry Chen, partner of Greylock Partners, who told the hosts he is at the show to “collect the dots so he can connect the dots.”
