Smartband maker Nymi gets new CEO to push security in the enterprise

Smartband maker Nymi, Inc. has a new CEO, with a vision to push security in wearables and the enterprise. Taking on the new role is John Haggard, while Nymi founder Karl Martin moves to the company’s CTO.

Haggard hails from Yubico AB, a company that specializes in two-factor authentication, serving as the company’s Chief Business Officer. His background at Yubico makes him equipped to run a company that specializes security and authentication.

The Nymi Band utilizes the wearer’s electrocardiogram, or heart’s electrical impulse, to verify the authenticity of the wearer. The data gathered from the wearer can be used to securely lock or unlock computer terminals, laptops, or any other device that utilizes Bluetooth or Near Field Communication (NFC) connectivity. Nymi continuously authenticates the wearer’s electrocardiogram, making it extremely difficult for others to fake or duplicate the data. Also, Nymi recently introduced its two-factor authentication which requires a combination of electrocardiogram reading and a unique one-time code, which is generated by the band itself.

Haggard’s role as Nymi’s CEO will primarily focus on leading the company’s mandate of delivering a frictionless, passive security experience to the enterprise.

“My career objective has always been to make a measurable, positive contribution to the computing industry, and Nymi is an exciting company that shares this goal,” said Haggard. “Nymi has embarked on an incredible journey that will change security forever. I look forward to bringing Nymi further into the forefront of enterprise solutions for privileged access and secure payments.”

Nymi also announced that Ram Varadarajan, the founder and CEO of Arcot Systems, Inc., will be joining the company’s Board of Directors. Arcot Systems is a top player in cloud-based authentication, fraud, and risk management solutions, and Varadarajan will play a crucial role in guiding the company in the secure payments space.

You can purchase the Nymi Band Discovery Kit, a developer kit intended for those who want to create Nymi Enabled Applications, for $149.
