Cisco’s intercloud fabric technology and the future of hybrid | #oow15

It’s become increasingly clear that cloud technology is a big part of enterprises looking to move business forward. Raghunath “Raghu” Nambiar, distinguished engineer of the Data Center Business Group at Cisco Systems, Inc., sat down with Jeff Frick and Stu Miniman, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld 2015 to talk about cloud and what Cisco has to offer in this emerging technology.

Intercloud fabric technology

“Cloud is a big part of our portfolio from the very beginning of the word,” said Nambiar. Cisco has an emerging technology, Nambiar highlighted, that can help companies navigate the Cloud. Nambiar referred to this technology as ICF – intercloud fabric technology – which Cisco Intercloud Fabric is using to connect Clouds.

“You can extend your private cloud deployment to public clouds,” Nambiar explained. “Or you can have deployments across multiple public clouds … ICF can provide you a seamless interface from an application perspective.”

Cisco also provides a platform for public clouds, as well with numerous partners, including Oracle.

Is it hybrid cloud?

The question about hybrid cloud still looms in the air. Does it exist? Will it happen?

“The landscape is becoming really, really complex,” emphasized Nambiar. “Every enterprise is expected to have a private cloud, as well as public cloud. Hybrid is basically the connectivity, right?”

Nambiar believes that some of this technology is still emerging, and time will only tell what it will look like.

“We believe hybrid cloud is going to be something of the future, because every enterprise will have deployments in their own data center … and one or more public cloud office,” he said.
