Amazon launches free cloud-based screenwriting app called Storywriter

Amazon Inc has announced the launch of Amazon Storywriter, a free web app for screenwriters that makes it easy to write your own script, and it has the added benefit allowing you submit your screenplay directly to Amazon Studios to be considered for their original programming.

Simply writing a screenplay is already hard enough, but most studios are such sticklers for proper formatting that they will not even look at a script that does not adhere to every nitpicky rule for indentations, titles, setting description, and so on. Because of this, most screenwriters write their scripts using specialized software, such as the industry standard, Final Draft, to handle all of the difficult formatting rules.

Amazon Storywriter is a new free alternative to Final Draft, and it includes all of the same tools that simply the process of formatting your scenes. Storywriter includes built in cloud support, which allows you to access your work from multiple devices, so if you finally have that breakthrough idea you have been waiting for while staring at your phone on the toilet, you can add it right away.

The app also also you to import scripts that you are already working on, with support for standard formats like PDF and RTF, as well as specialized screenwriting formats like FDX (Final Draft’s filetype) and Fountain (a screenwriting markup language). It can export scripts into these formats as well.

Storywriter also makes it easy to submit your screenplay to Amazon to be considered for its own original tv series, which include shows like The Man in the High Castle and Bosch.

“Amazon Studios is looking for movie and series ideas to turn into great entertainment, and has an open door for every talented creator,” Amazon said on its website. “You can submit your finished movie or TV script to Amazon Studios from directly within Amazon Storywriter by selecting ‘Submit to Amazon Studios’ from the drop-down menu on the right side of any script or draft.”

Amazon Storywriter is available on the web and as a Google Chrome app.
