Is HPE at the forefront of a massive transformation in the enterprise? | #HPEDiscover

Behind all the splashy announcements and press at HPE Discover 2015 is a simple message: “Your infrastructure is code.”

Ric Lewis, SVP and GM of the converged data center infrastructure with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), talked with Dave Vellante and John Furrier, cohosts for theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, about the announcement of HPE’s Synergy composable infrastructure, as well as the key message of the conference and the direction of the recently separated Hewlett Packard.

Calling Synergy a game changer, Lewis said, “The simplest way to say it is: ‘Your infrastructure is code.'” Using the same development model for private cloud that has been adopted for the public cloud, Synergy allows seamless use of traditional applications, as well as new mobile cloud applications. “It’s a beautiful thing, we’re really proud of HPE Synergy,” said Lewis.

The only true composable infrastructure

Lewis defines the core of Synergy, which he believes is “the world’s only true composable infrastructure,” as having three essential attributes:

  1. Flexible fluid pools of resources
  2. Software-defined intelligence
  3. Unified API

Lewis described these three attributes in detail, and claimed that Synergy will simplify the work process, allowing DevOps teams to configure the system with a single line of code. “The fluid pools, the software-defined intelligence, and the unified API – that’s the secret sauce that’s underneath there. … It’s simple to the customer, but we had to do a bunch of work to test the complexity out of it,” he said.

Changing data centers into a new model

Having spent his entire career with HP, Lewis is in an excellent position to comment on the recent split of HPE and what this means for the future. He was enthusiastic and excited, saying that HPE is “at the forefront of massive transformation in enterprise. … HPE can focus in on how it’s changing and how it’s changing is transforming to a hybrid infrastructure.”

Working with a team who he described as “the smartest people on the planet,” and a CEO who is a “huge fan of innovation,” Lewis said, “We have a few tricks up our sleeve that we haven’t let go yet – watch this space.”
