Amazon.com brings Christmas spirit with festive shipment tracking bars

It’s the Christmas season and everyone is getting into the spirit including Amazon.com, Inc. which has brought the holiday spirit even to its shipment tracking user interface. Starting recently, users who want to check where their package is will see an animated candy cane tracking bar with snow fluttering down over it.

This comes in a season when Amazon.com receives a staggering number of orders expected to be delivered by Christmas. It’s also a good time to note that the shipping deadline for Amazon.com Prime 2-day shipping is tomorrow, Tuesday, December 22 before 9:00 pm Pacific time. Of course, members willing to go with 1-day shipping can wait an extra day and still receive the goods by Christmas.

Of course, for the true procrastinators, Amazon unveiled this year Prime Now one- or two-hour delivery for select items—including alcohol. It’s not available in every city or for every item, but it’s one way to get that last-minute gift or bottle of Tequila to warm up the night.

In 2013, Amazon handled a staggering 426 items per second during Cyber Monday with over 36.8 million items ordered. Hard numbers are difficult to come by from Amazon about orders and shipping during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but no doubt it’s an extremely large number.

If you need something to wrap by Christmas (and Amazon will wrap it too!) there’s still a few days left to get it shipped on time and when you check on when it’ll arrive you can watch the festive shipment tracking bar.
