Xbox One gets free EA access today, update for preview members is on the way

Xbox Live members can get free access to the Electronic Arts digital catalogue, starting today January 19th, up until January 24th, a move that is encouraging gamers to download the EA access app. It might seem too much of a good deal, but there doesn’t seem to be any catches. Usually EA access would set you back $29.99 for a year’s subscription, or $4.99 for the month.

According to the EA blog if you’ve subscribed to Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold service you can play the games all week as often as you want. And, to sweeten the deal, since you are playing the actual games (and not demos) any progress saved will carry over if the game is purchased during or after the free week. If you sign up now you can also save 10 percent on all EA purchases for Xbox One.

Games available to download are:

Battlefield Hardline, EA Sports UFC, Battlefield 4, FIFA 15, Madden 25, Dragon Age: Inquisition, NHL 15, Titanfall, Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, Need for Speed Rivals, NBA LIVE 15, Peggle 2, FIFA 14, and Madden 14.

It also looks like the console will be getting an update sometime this week in a view of Microsoft engineer Mike Ybarra’s words. While he wasn’t specific on what new features would be coming to the Xbox One preview program he did say, “Pay attention next week” when asked about updates.

Ybarra did however tease fans with a video he posted to Twitter, leaving the comment, “Hmm, what am I doing here on Xbox One… #Xbox.” The clip shows Ybarra viewing party members before an invite.

If you want to be part of the Xbox One preview programme you’ll have to be invited by someone who is already a member. Once joined you can check out new features and functions prior to public release.
