Oops: Samsung Indonesia posts Galaxy S7 video confirming waterproofing, wireless/rapid charging

Another day, another doozy of a leak around Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.’s Galaxy S7, and this one is a good one: an actual promotion video out of Indonesia.

News of the video comes via Phone Probe, which discovered a promotion page for the new Galaxy phones available on Samsung’s Indonesian site titled “Galaxy Launch Pack;” remarkably that link still works at the time of writing, although we wouldn’t bet on it lasting.

The video itself is in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesia’s official language) so it’s not sure what is being said, but it’s easy to ascertain two features from it: wireless, rapid charging, and the return of waterproofing.

It starts with footage of Indonesian archer Dellie Threesyadinda working out in a gym, who very early on places the phone on a wireless charger; the vocals themselves reference “success” along with other words in Bahasa (the language itself has lots of loan words from Dutch and English, so it’s not impossible to work some of them out).

Some seven seconds later the phone, which is notably the Galaxy S7 Edge, is shown to be fully charged, indicating visually at least that the new wireless charging feature is quick.

Moving on, Threesyadinda is jogging with the phone strapped to her arm, then looks at her Samsung Gear watch for fitness data; we’re going to presume that it’s a current model Gear watch, but it may indicate a new fitness tracking feature perhaps in the phone; a scene shortly thereafter shows fitness data on the screen of the phone itself.

Cutting forward to the next scene it’s raining, and the Galaxy S7 Edge is clearly being used while not being hit with a little bit of water, but serious rain, confirming that the phone is definitely waterproof.

The video ends with Threesyadinda receiving a gold medal at an event, possibly the Olympic Games, with her mother using the phone to take pictures; of note despite Threesyadinda being in the middle of the arena and her mother being in the stand, the image shown on the phone is a clear close up, perhaps hinting towards improved digital zooming and/ or picture quality with the Galaxy S7’s new 12.2MP camera with Britcell processor.

Pitch

While we can’t take too much out of a video geared to the Indonesian market, if the theme follows through to Samsung’s global marketing we could perhaps expect to see the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge being pitched as a phone for active people on the go, who need quick charging times and don’t want to worry about getting the phone wet; it may not seem like much but it certainly would be a serious point of differentiation to Apple’s iPhone.

Stay tuned for more S7 coverage as we approach Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week and the launch event for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge February 21.
