IBM’s drive to digitization needs a roadmap for the enterprise | #IBMInterConnect

As the first day of IBM Interconnect wound down in Las Vegas, John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media, asked Brian Gracely, Wikibon analyst, to break down the vibe of the IBMInterConnect 2016 event.

Gracely commented on the number of announcements made so far, saying, “They are calling it cloud plus mobile; it’s pretty much every technology in the industry today.”

Services and partnerships

A few of Gracely’s takeaways were: ‘Everything as a Service,’ noting that everything that is cool and popular needs to be operationalized and made into a service. He also said there was a great deal of talk about IBM’s private cloud becoming more operational for the enterprise.

Lastly, Gracely was impressed with IBM Bluemix, built on Cloud Foundry, remarking that there is integration with everything from Watson to messaging services and the IBM collaboration with Swift (powerful language for modern apps). Gracely thinks that all of this will make IBM’s offerings more robust.

The team also talked about topics like the IBM/VMware, Inc. partnership, and Bluemix trying to catch up with Amazon Web Services in earnest.

The playbook for transition

Furrier and Vellenate asked Gracely to give IBM advice based on his coverage and analysis, and he recommended that as IBM drives the enterprise to digitization, they need the playbook on how to get there.
